REPORTS

Here, you can read any reports or reviews of the band that we have found. If you happen to stumble across anything that isn't on here yet, or have written your own review of a gig or record, please send it to us.
It's mainly only local newspapers and music websites, but it makes us sound good!

Glaxo sports day 2000This is a report from the Teesdale Mercury about one of our first gigs. (Ignore the waterfall, I'll scan the cutting as soon as the scanner is working again)

The Turks Head, March 2001This review is from Music Irresponsible - a local music website. The picture below on the left is a link to this site which is pretty good.

NINE YARDS, PARADOX OF THRIFT, POXY RESIN
TURKS HEAD, DARLINGTON, ENGLAND
The main problem with gigging in Darlo has always been the lack of a decent venue. Following the sanitisation of the Tap and Spile things have gotten a lot worse. The Turks Head, while a great pub, has a stage so small you can barely swing a very small cat. It's the mark of a good band that they can rise above these crappy woking conditions.

Nine Yards rose to the occasion with some mean punk/nu metal crossover tunes. Infecious riffs and lyrics make them a great choice to just rock out to. They've got the twiddly understated guitar shit from the Pixies, vocals from a 70's punk group and the kinds of basslines and riffs you'd associate with, say, Papa Roach. ***CLICHE WARING!*** they really do go "the whole nine yards!"

Paradox of Thrift still sound like Muse. That's a given. This means that they have great guitars and bass, but also the vocal style of Matt Bellamy. Which meanss llllyyyyyyrrriiiccccsss llikkkkkeee thhhhhhhiiissss where single wwwwooooorrrrddddssss are dragged out for what seems to be hours. This really pisses on the bonfire of their excellent instrumentals- I've known people on prozac to sound happier. Stuff like "Spine" would be great if they did it as an instrumental or Webb rocked up the vocals a bit- "Plug-in Baby"'s improved tone is lost, because Webb sings it like Sunburn. Ultimately this band are always going to grate if you hate Muse. I hate Muse. Paradox, like the originals, would be a lot better without Bellamy.

Becky from Poxy Resin is angry. She doesn't like it when people rate her looks over her singing talent. She's cute sure, but don't ever condesend to this girl or she'll piss on your grave. Poxy kept it tight musicaly and rounded of the jagged sound of the last band with their Alt- Rock stylings. "A Song About Oranges" was a highlight, and the song afterwards saw A REAL ORANGE (!) being thrown around the "moshpit" (some casual guy who'd got wrecked on three pints was staggering around trying to look "ironic" and someone smashed into an amp and got knocked out for a couple of seconds). A big improvement on their December gig when they bugged out and started attacking each other with mic stands.
